Book Reviews

Book Review: City of Glass, by Cassandra Clare 2009. Book 3 of the Shadow Hunter series.

Cassandra Clare didn’t disappoint in the third instalment of the series. Twists and turns show new paths for the characters and this novel is the epitome of change. Mostly for the best. There are also some extremely sad moments, when mortality really hits home.
Even though Jace almost succeeded in stopping Clary from travelling to Idris, she managed to find her own way there and finally got her glimpse of the glass city. And what she sees is everything she dreamt it was. Jace finds truths hidden in a veil of lies and secrets, giving him and Clary the chance at their dreams. Alec and Izzy find themselves grieving, a grief shared by the whole family, as well as being in the centre of a war. Even Simon, who is accidentally brought to Idris finds himself caught up in the war and finds himself inspiring Clary to come up with the idea that could help them win.

Many of Valentine’s secrets are revealed in this book, and his plans come into fruition, and it’s up to Jace and the others to stop him. Each secret and lie revealed seems to add a twist to the storyline going either way, and it really encourages the reader to turn the page! I was admittedly hooked and will be purchasing the next novel soon.

I recommend this book for mid teens to adult, and give it a rating of 6.5/10 stars. Well done Cassandra Clare, I hope the following novel is even better!
