Book Review: Lover Enshrined, by J. R. Ward (2008).

Blurb:

In this “frighteningly addictive” paranormal romance saga there’s a war raging between vampires and their slayers. Here are the stories of a secret band of brothers like no other – six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. And now a dutiful twin must choose between two lives…

Fiercely loyal to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Phury has sacrificed himself for the good of the race, becoming the sacrificed himself for the good of the race, becoming the male responsible for keeping the Brotherhood’s bloodlines alive. As Primale of the Chosen, he is obligated to father the sons and daughters who will ensure that the traditions of the race survive, and that there are warriors to fight of the race survive, and that there are warriors to fight those who want all vampires extinguished. As his first mate, the Chosen Cormia wants to win not only his body, but his heart for herself. She is drawn to the noble responsibility behind the emotionally scarred male. But Phury has never allowed himself to know pleasure or joy. As the war with the Lessening Society grows grim, tragedy looms over the Brotherhood’s mansion, and Phury must decide between duty and love…

Review:

Lover Enshrined is the sixth title to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series authored by J. R. Ward, and what a twist this book has given its readers. This book looks at the Brother Phury and his destined future. He has promised Vishous to take his place as the race’s Primale which means that his future is now set in stone as the race’s prime stud. Phury takes what time he has left and douses it with a good dose of pain and destruction, which causes the brotherhood to make some rash and unexpected decisions. But what other way to help the brother was not possible to really see. There was no other way.

As for romance and the erotic side of the novel, J. R. Ward does enter some steamy love scenes throughout the novel which will make flames of any burning desire smouldering on the surface for readers. Phury is meant to be the eventual lover of all the Chosen who await on the Other Side. He is to be husband to all and father to all their children. The Chosen Cormia is to be his first mate and this works out well for them both, in and out of the bedroom.

I think as a reader I have come to love this author’s style of writing, although the grammar freak in me comes out with vengeance often, I find that without a lot of the lingo used the storyline just wouldn’t be the same. The flashbacks which are written in a very different prose shows that the language is an evolution from the past, and these Vampire phenomena have much more depth behind their storyline than what I had first thought.

Overall, I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in the Vampire and Romance genre. It is an exciting and romantic (at times) story, that captures readers imagination easily. I give this book a rating of 6.5/10 stars.

Book Review: Lover Unbound, by J. R. Ward (2007).

Blurb

The ruthless and brilliant brother Vishous possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of a human surgeon, Dr Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner ain and taste true pleasure for the first time – until a destiny he didn’t choose takes him into a future that does not include her…

Review

Book five of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series is Lover Unbound authored by J. R. Ward. This has to be one of the more far-fetched of the novels this far. Not only does Vishious fall in love with a human, who is compromised in so many ways, he has a paternal revelation as well as the discovery that he nearly becomes the Primale, the breeding stud of his kind.

In this Novel Butch and Vishious also come to an understanding about their taboo relationship. Which is one twist I really hadn’t expected. It’s a tough topic to pull of and continue to keep the masculinity of the characters from disappearing completely. Kudos to the author. The whole erotic fantasy between Jane and V is something of an acquired taste but a good read all the same.

There really wasn’t any important input from the lesser faction to note but I am sure that the new the novel will bring them back threefold.

John’s story continues to heat up now that he has gone through his transition and is a huge vampire to boot. He has a variety of obstacles to overcome before life will settle down for that male.

Overall this novel has been an interesting read and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the vampire romance genre. I give this book a rating of 5/10 stars.

Book Review: Lover Revealed by J R Ward (2007).

Blurb

Butch O’Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard-living ex-homicide cop, he’s the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world – to lose. He heart belongs to a female Vampire, an aristocratic beauty who’s way out of his league. If he can’t have Marissa, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers. Fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, he’s found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back. But even her love may not be enough to save him…

Review

The fourth book of the series by J. R. Ward, I have found to be by far the best of them all. The erotic scenes between Butch and Marissa are both tantalising, scary and altogether strange. The changes which occur in Butch add to the scandal and altogether this book brings out the real forbidden love fairytale.

Again with the addition of a lesser character which is described with more than just a letter for a name, I have found myself tolerating the parts of the story in which they interfere. I feel somehow disconnected with the most obvious plot that continues from one book to the next. However, I am beginning to see their importance the more I read. David and Xavier being two of their better characters!

The storylines twist with the additional emotions and actions of V is somewhat a curious one. Although he says that he isn’t bi-sexual or homosexual, yet he displays behaviours that raise too many questions. He also admits to strange sexual encounters with women. However, he doesn’t say anything about men and there is no indication of anything romantic between anyone else but V and Butch. But is there something deeper? Something that we can’t quite pinpoint just yet. Perhaps that will come through in the next novel.

Overall I have enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance or the Vampire genre. It has been an interesting ride with this series so far. Kudos to the author. I give the book a rating of 6/10 stars.

Now, Bella must help her lover overcome the wounds of his torturned past, and find a future with her…

Review.

The third novel to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series I found to be more enjoyable than the first two. Perhaps the story of Zsadist and Bella is so unique and touching, or I have finally come to terms with the authors prose, either way, I found the story quite enjoyable in comparison to its predecessors.

This time I found the storyline involving the ‘Lessers’ much more interesting also. The Lesser having more of a storyline to his role in the story. It gave Bella’s torment more strength and more understanding in the way she is able to accept her hellren’s idiosyncrasies better than anyone else ever could. I found the way Bella was able to bring forth a much softer side to Zsadist was written very touching, and enjoyed the way the writer brought forward the various emotions brought forward from brutal sexually horrific and down right gruesome acts done to such a sensitive naïve vampire as was Zsadist when he was originally captured.

Overall I have enjoyed this third book of the Black Dagger Brotherhood the most of the series so far. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in romance and the Vampire Genre. I give this book a rating of 5.5/10 stars.

Book Review: Lover Eternal by J. R. Ward (2006).

Blurb

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other six Vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed deadly beast, Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with strongest appetites. He’s the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage’s intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves …

Review:

The second book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series is Lover Eternal, by J. R. Ward. It’s been an interesting ride with this Vampire novel. There have been a multitude of issues to overcome for all parties involved, Rhage and his beast, as well as Mary and her Cancer being the most difficult. But even so the pair manage to find enough time whilst battling their own demons to find love in each other. The question is at what cost? And to who?

J. R. Ward has presented yet another fine Vampire Romance novel that takes off where the first one finished, but instead of focusing on Beth and Wrath, this time we look at life with Rhage. Mary is fortunate to get wrapped up in the whole scenario when she tries to help a young man named John, who is an adolescent Vampire, which is something that neither of them knew. Not until Mary introduced him to Bella anyway!

I have enjoyed reading the romance side of this novel. Just like its predecessor, it is full of delinquent vocabulary, which I find irritating to read at times, however it continues to be an exciting and romantic storyline. I have very much enjoyed getting to know Rhage and all of his secrets and watching the relationship grow between him and Mary. I dare say just the story of the Vampires alone, even without action scenes would be enough to keep me reading, but it was an interesting read all the same. The history behind this Vampire society is something I want to get to know better whilst taking in the Vampires character and their mates.

On the down side, I really don’t find the “lessers” very good ‘bad guys’. I find myself not concerned for the Vampires in any way due to these supposed bad guys, and their names are almost laughable. I do understand there is a reason behind their naming, but seriously, I find myself wanting to skip over the “lesser” sections of text and continue on with the novel. I just find it almost boring!

Overall, I did enjoy reading this novel, even though there are some things I would have fathered not waisted my time with. I think the author has some really great things going with the characters but needs to take another look at the ‘bad guy’s’ again! I would recommend this book to adults who enjoy romance, and Vampire genre novels. It is quite interesting once you get into it! I give this book a rating of 5.5/10 stars.

Book Review: Dark Lover by  J. R. Ward (2005).

Blurb

The only purebred vampire left on the planet and the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who killed his parents centuries ago. But when his most trusted fighter is killed—orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate—Wrath must put down his dagger and usher the beautiful female into another world.

Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn’t there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of the Brotherhood and blood frighten her. Yet his touch ignites a dawning new hunger—one that threatens to consume them both…

Review

A great beginning to a romantic Vampire series, Dark Lover is a great read for those who enjoy Romance novels but are also interested in the Vampire genre.  J. R. Ward has put together some really unusual characters and flipped their world’s upside down to produce an enthusiastic sexually charged story that keeps readers wanting more!

The concept of Vampires is new to some characters and they are thrown in the deep end when it comes to being introduced into an entirely different world and new way of living. However harrowing this turns out to be, there is a constant undercurrent of love and loyalty, as well as strange sense of safety. There is also humour, which sets of some of the more difficult and serious situations, and comes off In a way that gives the characters depth.

Although there are some very hot sex scenes, there is always love behind it, which steers the story away from a XXX rating. The love story of Beth and Wrath Is a story that Is worth the read. Although I have to admit that it could have been written in a different story rose with a better vocabulary for the characters, but I guess without it the characters don’’t quite have the same appeal.

Overall I believe Dark Lover to be a fair beginning of what appears to be a fast paced action packed series. I would recommend it to anyone interested In Vampires, especially those who like their romance. I give the book a rating of 5/10 stars.
