I saw the 10th year collection of this novel at the shops the other day and I decided I absolutely had to have it! This book has been sitting on my #mustread list for a very long time, and seeing this beautiful edition I couldn’t resist. Inside I was thrilled to find that the story is as amazing as the look of the cover. An intriguing read, Clockwork Angel is a fantastic read.
The novel is set in the 1800’s in London, and although the characters and storyline are fictional, the reader is easily able to imagine themselves within this time and place. The author has put in a lot of effort and study into the Victorian era to ensure that the book has the right feel and the places are recognizable. Each of the characters a familiar in some ways, especially after having read the Shadowhunters series, and are portrayed in a likeable and interesting way. The book is written in an easy to understand language and the prose makes it enjoyable and fluent.
My favorite character remains Jem throughout. I find him to be the most intriguing. Will does have a lot of secrets that I would love to drag out of him! But he isn’t exactly the friendliest of people and its easy to dislike him, especially after he treats Tessa the way in which he does. It was also nice to have Magnus Bane amongst the group, however I would have liked to have seen a little more of him. Perhaps that will be the case in the next book. We can only hope!
Overall, I believe this is a great book for epic fantasy fiction novels. It would be great for the young adult age group, but I think anyone interested in the supernatural would enjoy this book if given a chance. Cassandra Clare is a great author after all! I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. I give this book a rating of 8/10 stars.
